Introduction to the Saints Blog

Situated between the town centre and the Waterfront, the Saints is one of Ipswich’s most historic and attractive thoroughfares. It comprises St Nicholas Street at the northern end, and towards the south and the Waterfront is St Peter’s Street.

It is the independent centre for Ipswich, currently home to over 50 independently owned businesses. We are home to some wonderful eclectic gift and homeware stores, coffee shops and restaurants and award winning beauty and hair salons to mention a few - have a look at our business listings for the comprehensive list. In 2016 The Saints were finalists in the Great British High Street Awards, an accolade we were very proud of.

The Saints is also home to many architectural and historic gems, such as a number of timber framed medieval buildings, the award winning Willis offices, and statues of Prince Oblonsky and Cardinal Thomas Wolsey.

Twice a year the Saints play host to a street market [June and November]. St Peter’s Street is closed to traffic and we host 30 local craft and artisan stalls. Our street market has become one of Ipswich’s calendar highlights.

The Saints are easy to find and very accessible, being close to the Cattlemarket Bus Station, 10 minute walk to Ipswich Rail Station and close to several car parks. It is a great place to experience independent Ipswich, access the Waterfront and explore the town centre and Christchurch Park. Ipswich History walks regularly offer tours that take in the area.

As we now enter the recovery phase of the pandemic it has never been more important to support our local high streets and communities , the Saints’ businesses are open and ready for the Spring. We look forward to welcoming you, and two dates for the diary, Sunday 26th June and Sunday 27th November the Saints Street Markets.
